WiFi Salon is dedicated to showcasing the latest in WiFi enabled experiences. With the parkwifi network, sponsored by Nokia, WiFi Salon has created a free public amenity for the benefit of New York City’s many parkgoers.
Our goal is to offer parkgoers highly localized content on the parks and the surrounding neighborhood from the parks department, from local arts and cultural institutions, and from other sources public and private.
WiFi is the localization of the internet.
Marshall Brown, WiFi Salon’s Founder and CEO, is a digital media strategy consultant. He advises media companies and municipalities on how they can best use information technology to deliver content and services locally.
He founded WiFi Salon because he wanted to play a role in helping to create the future of Wi-Fi as an engine for economic and social development and as a platform for the delivery of multimedia content.
WiFi Salon has now a network of 18 Wi-Fi Hot Spots in ten parks and four boroughs, in accordance with a concession awarded from the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation. The local community portals at its Hot Spots will soon have multimedia feeds for local news, events, and video, and will allow community members to post listings, events, classifieds, articles, useful links, and photos to blogs and newsletters.
Marshall is a graduate of Dartmouth College and The University of Chicago, and taught for five years at Harvard University while writing on media and culture. Over the past sixteen years, he has worked in information technology business development with Fortune 1000 companies and start-ups as clients, with an emphasis on technology plan development. Over the past several years, Marshall has been focusing on media and technology, promoting that the means by which we consume, produce and distribute media will change in dramatic and unexpected ways over the coming years. He is committed to playing a role in shaping that future. Marshall lives in New York City on the Upper East Side with his wife, son, and daughter.
