The parkwifi network is a free public WiFi service available at 17 locations in 10 flagship New York City Parks, via a concession WiFi Salon holds with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. A map of the network can be found here.
The parkwifi network’s lead sponsor is Nokia. WiFi Salon is grateful for their commitment to this network and this project.
The parkwifi network’s local community Hot Spots offer users an interactive map of the Wi-Fi coverage area, of the park, and of the surrounding neighborhood. A “Top Ten Within Ten” offers users a running list of local park or neighborhood attractions within a ten minute walk, with maps. A list of the local park portals can be seen here.
The aim of the parkwifi network is to bring people closer to their parks, to bring the parks closer to the surrounding neighborhoods, and to bring park goers closer to the rest of the world.
